Wendell — Can’t you just picture it? A cute little bistro-like restaurant that specializes in the absolute best coffee available in the world? A place where all moms — stay-at-home moms, working moms, and work-from-home moms — can all gather around and discuss anything and everything that their little hearts desire?

Well, if you take away the best coffee ever and replace it with whatever has been fermenting in the pot since 5 a.m., then you have Cafemom. Also, I lied about the bistro-like restaurant. You actually don’t even need to leave the house to go to Cafemom. All you really need is a computer and, of course, the Internet.

Log on to cafemom.com and create your personal profile. I like to describe it as MySpace — but only for moms. You can search moms in your general area or across the nation. Need some advice, but don’t know where to turn? This is the place. I searched other moms within 5 miles of my 27591 zip code. There were 292 registered moms in the area. Although I haven’t yet met any moms in person, I have traded many e-mails with some of them. We might not have the same likes and dislikes, but we do have one thing in common, and that is being a mom.

There are a few local groups on there as well. One that I am currently a member of is “Fun Loving Moms in the Raleigh and Surrounding Areas. “Every month, moms in the group get together for a Mothers Night Out. I have not been able to attend yet, but plan on doing so this month.

Of course, I have been a member for over a year now, so I feel like a pro. I first joined when my son was getting ready to start kindergarten. I was really nervous about him leaving the nest — OK, OK, not really the nest, but any milestone in your child’s life can seem larger than another.

I met many other moms out there who already went through this, or who were currently going through it and we all helped comfort each other during that time. And for that, I am truly grateful.
